Ross' Statement on FBI Reopening Clinton Email Investigation

Statement

Date: Oct. 28, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Rep. Dennis A. Ross (FL-15), Senior Deputy Majority Whip, released the following statement in response to the FBI reopening its investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's mishandling of classified emails and information:

"I am pleased the FBI is reopening its investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's private email server use. As Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton put the American people in harm's way and recklessly gambled with our national security when she mishandled sensitive and secret government information by using multiple unprotected, unofficial email devices and servers.

"We cannot set the dangerous precedent that the politically elite and the Obama Administration are immune from abiding by the laws of our land. Every day I hear from my constituents, desperately asking why Hillary Clinton is allowed off-the-hook when average citizens would never dream of getting away with such atrocities, and they are completely right. No matter how you try to word it, and no matter how you try to manipulate the situation, there is no excuse Hillary Clinton can give that justifies her actions. The rule of law is the rule of law--for everyone."
