Tillis Statement on Anniversary of Beirut Barracks Bombings

Statement

Date: Oct. 23, 2016
Location: Huntersville, NC

Today, Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) issued the following statement in honor of the U.S. servicemembers who lost their lives in the Beirut barracks bombings on October 23, 1983:

"Today, we should all take a moment to remember and honor the 241 brave servicemembers who were killed by the terrorist bombings of the Marine Corps compound in Beirut 33 years ago. A majority of those killed and injured were Marines stationed at Camp Lejeune.

"These heroes represent the best of America -- young men and women who volunteered to answer the call of duty by defending our nation in one of the most dangerous parts of the world, ultimately making the ultimate sacrifice.

"As we honor our brave Marines and soldiers who lost their lives and were injured this horrible attack, we must reaffirm our commitment to ensure justice is served for all victims and their families, including holding Iran and all other state sponsors of terrorism accountable for their actions."
