Schrader Applauds FCC Delay, Calls for Greater Transparency

Statement

Date: Sept. 29, 2016

Today, the Federal Communication Commission announced that they will postpone a vote on the new set-top box proposal to allow more time for its consideration. Initially introduced in January, the proposal has since been modified without being made available for public review and comment.

"I am pleased the FCC has listened to our concerns and will be delaying a vote on the new set-top box proposal," said Rep. Schrader. "We all share the goal of greater consumer choice and competition in the video space, however significant concerns remain regarding the impact these new technology mandates will have on many rural Oregon providers and their customers. Stakeholders deserve the opportunity to review any final proposal and provide public input before it receives a vote. Greater transparency on such a complex and technical issue needs be a priority for the Commission going forward."

Earlier this month, Congressman Schrader, along with 63 other Members of Congress, sent a letter to the FCC urging the commission to allow for additional time for public comments on revised set-top box proposal.
