Today former Nevada Attorney General and candidate for U.S. Senate Catherine Cortez Masto released the following statement on Latina Equal Pay Day:
"Latina women in Nevada only make 53 percent of what their white male colleagues make to do the same job, meaning they have to work 22 months to earn what white men make in one year. It is despicable that we are still allowing a wage gap to hold back the hardworking Latinas in Nevada, depriving them of the opportunities to create a better life for their families. Passing the Lily Ledbetter Equal Pay Act was a great first step, but we need to make sure Congress better represents the diversity of America before we can make equal pay for equal work a reality.
"As Attorney General, I made protecting Nevada women my top priority and I won't stop until paycheck fairness is a reality for all women. My opponent, Congressman Heck has already shown us he won't stand up for women -- he voted against equal pay for equal work three times. Nevada women can't afford Joe Heck representing them in Washington."
