U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) issued the following statement regarding the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Inspector General (IG) report on the mismanagement of the Denver VA Replacement Medical Facility in Aurora, CO:
"I'm glad the VA Inspector General completed the review of the Aurora VA Medical Center. This report confirms the mismanagement of the project by former VA officials and details the numerous mistakes made by not controlling the design of the project and improperly managing the contract. This is precisely why the Army Corps of Engineers is now in charge of construction in Aurora and the VA was stripped of its authority to construct other large projects. Under the Army Corps' management the project is now over 75% complete, and I will continue to work to ensure the VA has the resources and plans necessary to open the medical center as soon as possible to deliver high-quality healthcare to Rocky Mountain Veterans."
