Gov. Perry Announces Special Session for July 21st
Calls Legislators Back to Address School Finance
Gov. Rick Perry today formally announced that he is calling state lawmakers back into special session beginning Thursday, July 21, to complete work on school finance.
"Education reform and property tax relief are the two most significant issues the legislature faces, and lawmakers won't leave Austin until both priorities are addressed," Perry said. "Legislators came very close to reaching an agreement on a record property tax cut, and the upcoming special session gives them a chance to make good on their promise to deliver property tax relief in addition to education reform."
"The special interests that want to protect the education status quo, their tax loopholes and their market share of tobacco addicts must not be allowed to win at the expense of schoolchildren and taxpayers," Perry said.
The formal proclamation listing issues to be addressed in the next special session will be released Thursday. The session will begin at 10:00 a.m.
