What Wisconsinites are Watching: Russ and Cecile Richards, WI Women for Women's Health Roundtable

Press Release

Yesterday, Russ was joined by Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood Action Fund, and Wisconsin women for a roundtable to discuss women's health and reproductive rights.

Traveling the state, one thing that Russ doesn't hear from Wisconsinites is that Washington politicians should be making medical decisions for Wisconsin women. But that's exactly what Senator Johnson wants. Planned Parenthood and women's health have been under constant assault by Washington Republicans like Sen. Johnson for years now.

Sen. Johnson's record on women's health and economic rights is right up there with the most extreme Washington Republicans. He's voted multiple times to defund Planned Parenthood, calling those efforts "fun." He's called the Violence Against Women Act "divisive." And, he backs a federal "personhood" amendment that could outlaw many forms of birth control.

Unfortunately for Sen. Johnson, Wisconsin women know what's at stake for themselves and their families if his extreme status quo continues. They're fired up and ready to get behind leaders like Russ who support safe, affordable access to healthcare, equal pay for equal work, and an increase in the minimum wage.

"Wisconsin U.S. senate candidate Russ Feingold told women in Madison on Wednesday that they have to be on the offense, not just play defense on issues that affect them...women need to guard access to health care and fight for family leave and pay equity.
...
Planned Parenthood, a women's health provider, has been under constant assault by Republicans like Johnson, Feingold said."
