Rep. Trott Votes to Override Obama Veto of 9/11 Victims Bill

Statement

Date: Sept. 29, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Dave Trott (MI-11), Michigan's only member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement after voting to override President Obama's veto of a legislation that would allow the families of 9/11 victims to seek justice against state sponsors of terrorism:

"Today, the Congress rightfully excised its Constitutional authority to override a presidential veto. The victims of the 9/11 terror attacks deserve to seek justice against any nation that was part of this terrible attack on our nation. President Obama was wrong to veto this bill, and now Congress has acted and ensured American terror victims get their day in court. It's encouraging to see a bipartisan coalition of lawmakers come together to enact good policy and allow law to be based not on the decision of one person, but rather the will of the American people."
