Congresswoman Gabby Gifford's Organization, Americans for Responsible Gun Solutions, Endorses Carol Shea-Porter for Congress

Statement

Date: Aug. 10, 2016
Location: Rochester, NH
Issues: Guns

Today, Americans for Responsible Solutions, the organization founded by Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, endorsed Carol Shea-Porter. Americans for Responsible Solutions advocates for common sense solutions to reduce gun violence while protecting responsible gun ownership.

"Carol Shea-Porter knows that with freedom comes responsibility, and that we can do more to keep guns out of the wrong hands while protecting the rights of law-abiding gun owners like us. I am proud to support Carol, my former colleague and a leader who is committed to standing up to the Washington gun lobby and to bipartisan change that will help prevent gun tragedies. In Congress, Carol will be a tireless champion for the vocal majority of Granite Staters who are calling on their elected leaders to do more to reduce gun violence and make our communities safer," said Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.

Unlike Congressman Guinta, Carol Shea-Porter supports universal background checks to make it easier to stop criminals or terrorists from purchasing firearms. She believes that stalkers who have threatened or abused their partners and are under a restraining order shouldn't be allowed to purchase a firearm. Carol knows that if someone is too dangerous to fly, that person shouldn't be allowed to purchase a gun.

"I am honored to receive the endorsement of Americans for Responsible Solutions. Congresswoman Gabby Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly have done incredible work advocating for gun violence prevention measures," said Carol Shea-Porter. "Sadly, it's far too easy for criminals, terrorists, and individuals who are a danger to themselves or others to buy guns. Congress needs to pass common sense legislation that protects people's Second Amendment rights while helping our law enforcement agencies keep illegal weapons off the black market and out of the hands of criminals."
