GOVERNOR FURTHERS TRADE RELATIONSHIP WITH BRITAIN
Arizona businesses meet with British counterparts during Governor's second trip
PHOENIX - Governor Janet Napolitano devoted the second half of her summer vacation to
business - continuing to build vital trade links between Arizona and the United Kingdom.
The Governor spent Monday and today meeting with British corporations and Arizona
businesses interested in developing trade relationships between Arizona and the United
Kingdom.
"In the past eight months, we have made a lot of progress in establishing a strong presence in
British trade," Governor Napolitano said. "This second trip to England is about furthering
existing partnerships, as well as recruiting more companies and jobs to Arizona."
On Monday, the Governor met with the executive director and key board members of the Society
of British Aerospace Companies (SBAC), the national trade association of the British aerospace
industry. This meeting was to consolidate the ongoing relationship between the SBAC and the
Arizona Department of Commerce and ensure Arizona's position as a key U.S. market for the
SBAC members.
From London, the Governor travels to Dublin, Ireland for meetings with the Irish Development
Authority and others. This fall, she will continue to build foreign trade with a trip to Santiago,
Chile.
Governor Napolitano studied in London during her college years. Last November, she made her
first trip to the UK as Governor, working to strengthen ties to companies that do business in
Arizona. During that trip, she met with representatives of Rio Tinto, a mining company
currently working on a new venture in Superior; and British Airways, which operates a non-stop
flight from Phoenix to London.
