The Only Way to Change Things in Congress is to Change the People in Congress

Statement

Date: Sept. 5, 2016
Issues: Elections

Most voters don't know that my opponent is the only member currently serving in Congress who has been reprimanded by the House Ethics Committee. In 2014, she received a public letter of reproval for obstructing their investigation after a complaint was made that she was using staff personnel on government time to help with fundraising activities.

She is rated as one of the top ten least-effective members of Congress. After seven years of serving in the House, she has introduced 38 bills and only one has made it out of committee to become a law, and that was for renaming a Post Office. She has a current score of "0" from the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), as she consistently votes against bills that support small businesses.

She voted against conducting background checks on Syrian refugees, calling them "attacks on frightened and vulnerable women and children." Her comments were made just a few weeks before a young terrorist mother and her husband killed 14 people in San Bernardino. Clearly, her actions and statements do not reflect the values and views of her constituents. The only way to change things in Congress is to change the people in Congress.
