Congressman Engel Announces $201,789 Grant To College Of Mount Saint Vincent

Congressman Eliot L. Engel, a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, announced the College of Mount Saint Vincent has been awarded a $201,789 grant under the Minority Science and Engineering Improvement Program (MSEIP). The program assists institutions in effecting long-range improvement in science and engineering education programs and increasing the flow of underrepresented ethnic minorities, particularly minority women, into science and engineering careers.

"The College of Mount Saint Vincent is a first-rate institution that does tremendous work expanding educational opportunities for underrepresented minority populations," Congressman Engel said. "I have no doubt this grant money, which is anticipated to remain available for three years, will go a long way toward helping our young students achieve academic success, while preparing them for their future careers in science and engineering."

"Support from the MSEIP affirms the quality of the College's programs in the natural sciences and mathematics, as well as our commitment to authentic educational opportunity," said College of Mount Saint Vincent President Dr. Charles Flynn. "Several years ago, Mount Saint Vincent was recognized for having the highest graduation rate in the United States for Hispanic students in science and science related fields. But we think we can do even better. The MSEIP grant will further build programs designed to help more students meet high expectations. We are proud of our students and their accomplishments.
