Date: Sept. 2, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced that the Bucksport Fire and Ambulance Department will receive a $25,000 federal grant through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program. The funding will be used to help purchase a cardiac monitor, pagers, tablets and monitoring equipment.

"All across Maine, the brave men and women in our local fire departments work tirelessly every day to keep our communities safe," said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement. "This welcome funding through the AFG program will help the Bucksport Fire and Ambulance Department to purchase new equipment and continue in its important mission."

The AFG program is administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which is an agency within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The program was created to help assist fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations with purchasing equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources to better protect the public and emergency personnel.
