Rep. Marino Responds to FBI Release of Clinton Investigation Notes

Press Release

Date: Sept. 3, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

On Friday, the FBI released documents and notes from their investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of an illegal, private email server while Secretary of State.

In July, Director James Comey testified before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform regarding the investigation into Hillary Clinton's private email server. While the director noted Clinton and her staff acted in an "extremely carless" manner when handling sensitive information, he recommended no charges be brought against her. In an attempt to clarify, Congressman Marino sent a letter to Director Comey asking for a release of FBI documents and notes surrounding the Clinton investigation. Thirty-four congressmen joined Rep. Marino in sending the letter in August.

Congressman Tom Marino (PA-10) issued the following statement:

"We already knew that Hillary Clinton acted in an 'extremely careless' manner when handling highly sensitive, classified information. These new documents exemplify her recklessness. It is laughable that the Secretary of State can claim she cannot remember or does not know what classified markings are. Yet in her response to FBI agents, Mrs. Clinton claimed she couldn't recall critical information nearly 40 times. Ignorance of the law is not an acceptable excuse for endangering our national security. As I have said before, we must appoint an independent, special prosecutor to investigate the misconduct of Hillary Clinton while Secretary of State."
