Governor Tomblin Announces Grants for Flood-Impacted Small Businesses in Greenbrier County

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today recognized the first round of flood-impacted small businesses that have qualified for grants through RISE West Virginia, the state's long-term recovery initiative aimed at revitalizing local economies following the devastating floods of June 2016.

At Cook's Country Kitchen in White Sulphur Springs and D&D Hardware in Rainelle, Gov. Tomblin announced that 23 small businesses in Greenbrier County are being awarded a total of nearly $200,000 in this initial batch of grants, which range from $2,000 to $10,000 and affect nearly 100 employees.

"We launched RISE West Virginia less than one month ago, and I am proud of the great work that has been done to get these grants in the hands of small business owners so quickly," said Gov. Tomblin. "Our goal is to help small businesses keep their doors open, thereby saving or creating jobs and supporting local economies. I look forward to seeing even more of this funding distributed in additional communities that are on the road to recovery."

Gov. Tomblin announced the RISE West Virginia initiative on July 25. The public-private small business grant program, co-sponsored by West Virginia native Brad Smith, Chairman and CEO of Intuit, is overseen by the West Virginia Development Office in partnership with the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce.
