Issue Position: Legalization of Marijuana

Issue Position

We have a great example of the benefit of legalization in Colorado. Tens of millions in tax dollars have been collected, and used for schools, and drug education programs. Right now in Iowa, if you are African-American you are 8 times more likely to be arrested for pot possession. The usage between blacks and whites is nearly identical, so there is some racial profiling going on. We can stop arresting nonviolent people for nonviolent crimes, and stop ruining people's futures over a plant.
