U.S. Representative Cresent Hardy (R-NV) today released the following statement on reports of a $400 million cash-for-prisoners exchange with the Iranian government:
"I'm absolutely furious to learn this Administration would rather lie to Congress and subsidize the world's largest state sponsor of terrorism instead of leveling with the American people and their elected representatives about its shady dealings with Iran. Giving cash under the table to our enemies in exchange for prisoners breaks with decades of declared policy and puts a bounty on the head of every American traveling overseas.
"It's not a coincidence that an unmarked cargo plane full of cash landed in Iran the same day four American prisoners were finally released and on the heels of the official implementation of the disastrous Iran nuclear deal.
"The American people aren't stupid. This administration must start telling the truth for a change about its dealings with the Iranian regime. Desperately gambling with our country's national security to further a political narrative isn't good foreign policy and it makes America less safe."
