Issue Position

Access to a world-class University of Wisconsin education should not be governed by how much money a family has. We need to make a college education affordable for Wisconsin families. Additionally, we have to provide resources to the universities that will ensure that top-tier educators are attracted to and will remain to teach and research at our state's universities. But Republicans have cut close to a billion dollars from the UW System budget. In this last legislative session, Wisconsin was one of only nine states to cut funding for higher education. Additionally, they have ended incentives to keep the best faculty in our state. A strong commitment to the University of Wisconsin system in its entirety, and to all of our state colleges, is critical to growing our economy and increasing opportunity for the citizens of our state. I will work on behalf of our students and citizens to end the devastating cuts to higher education and to provide an affordable, high-quality college education.
