To strengthen Kauai's economy and provide economic opportunities for all, we need to diversify the economy and improve our economic self-sufficiency by promoting import substitution. We need to support our visitor industry, but we must also understand our capacity limitations. Investing in infrastructure improvements, protecting our natural resources, and honoring our host culture enhances our quality of life and visitor experience.

To help diversify our economy, as a member of the Kaua`i County Council, I introduced funding for feasibility studies and business plans for the Kaua`i Creative Technology Center and Kaua`i Community College Food Production and Education Center. We need to see these projects through completion because they will provide higher paying jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities. I'd like to continue to pursue projects that will promote the following industry clusters on Kaua`i.

1. Food and agriculture
2. Health and wellness
3. Sports and recreation
4. Culture and Arts
5. Science and technology
6. Sustainable technologies & practices
