Rep. John Katko Statement on Fitzpatrick Nuclear Plant

Statement

Date: July 13, 2016
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Energy

U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24) released the following statement on this morning's announcement that Entergy is in discussions with Exelon for the potential sale of the James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant.

"When Entergy made its announcement late last year that it was considering shutting down FitzPatrick Nuclear Plant in Oswego County, I vowed to do whatever I could to ensure these local jobs were protected. I have stood alongside FitzPatrick workers, their families, and our state and local leaders in this fight. I have urged the state to consider FitzPatrick's value to our region, both as an economic engine and as a key part of our state's clean energy portfolio. Like many Oswego County families, I have never given up hope. Today's news of Exelon's interest in operating FitzPatrick Nuclear Plant is a welcome development for our community. While this proposal is far from certain, I will remain in close contact with company and state officials as it moves forward"
