Marchant Presses Administration on ACA's Cost Sharing Reduction Program

Location: Washington, DC

During a Ways and Means Subcommittee hearing today, U.S. Congressman Kenny Marchant (TX-24) questioned administration officials on Obamacare's Cost Sharing Reduction (CSR) Program. Marchant pressed officials to identify who was responsible for the administrations' unlawful payments to insurance providers under this program.

"The U.S. Treasury did not have the constitutional authority to administer payments under the ACA's Cost Sharing Reduction program," said Marchant. "Pathetically, administration officials could not answer who was responsible for this action. Political posturing and a violation of the U.S. Constitution demand consequences. Our Constitution sets clear in Article I, that "No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law.'"

"Congress is the appropriator of taxpayer dollars. The unconstitutional funneling of tax-income to health insurers was purposely done to mask flaws of the President's health care law. As the courts continue to litigate on the CSR program, the committee is continuing its own investigation. I speak for my constituents when I demand accountability for these actions by the administration."
