Gun Ownership Rights

I support the entirety of the United States Constitution and agree that it is the supreme law of the land.

The right to keep and bear arms, like all other rights embodied in our founding documents, is not bestowed upon us by government. Rather, we the people have established that the rights to self-defense and self-preservation are bestowed on us by the Creator. They are Natural rights.

The second amendment is very clear, concise and unambiguous. I do not favor new regulations as it pertains to private individuals from keeping (ownership) and bearing (carrying) firearms. As a gun owner I do understand that great responsibility and maturity are required to safely handle firearms.

Aside from the constitutional considerations, crime rate statistics clearly show that the states with the highest levels of private gun ownership have the lowest crime rates in the United States.

The Second Amendment

"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

I will work in the Maine Legislature to ensure our state laws and regulations regarding the ownership and use of firearms are in compliance with the second amendment.
