Pearce Statement on Court Ruling Against BLM Fracturing Rule

Statement

Date: June 22, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Steve Pearce issued the following statement after a U.S. District Judge in Wyoming ruled that the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has no legal authority to regulate hydraulic fracturing:

"Yesterday, a District Judge ruled BLM had no legal authority to regulate hydraulic fracturing. This is welcome news for the entire state of New Mexico. Hydraulic fracturing has propelled not only New Mexico, but the nation into an energy renaissance. Oil and gas production significantly benefits our state as it contributes to a significant portion of the New Mexico state budget. It provides good paying jobs for thousands of our family members, friends, and neighbors; helps ensure our schools are modern and safe; aids our local law enforcement in procurement of equipment and officers; and assists hospitals in providing the best care possible to the people of New Mexico This ruling adds to the long list of recent rulings overturning Executive actions by the Obama Administration and proves, once again, that this Administration's attempts to further its agenda through unilateral action will not survive in the courts," said Congressman Pearce.
