Curbelo's Remarks After Zika Press Conference

Statement

Date: June 3, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Rep. Carlos Curbelo (FL-26) and Sen. Marco Rubio (FL), held a press conference to urge their colleagues in Congress to pass appropriate funding to combat the Zika virus.

"Congress must sufficiently fund Zika eradication efforts, an issue not only important to the state of Florida, but our country as a whole. The latest reports from the Florida Department of Health suggest that there have been 50 cases of Zika in Miami-Dade county alone, while the state of Florida accounts for 21% of all Zika cases in the United States according to the CDC. I urge my colleagues to act and pass viable long-overdue Zika legislation as soon as possible. We must ensure that the federal government provides adequate funds to combat this dangerous virus in order to keep Americans and our families safe. I thank my colleague, Sen. Rubio for his leadership on combatting Zika--it's necessary that both Chambers work together to eradicate this virus."
