Gilchrest to Take New USDA Official on Tour of Delmarva

U.S. Rep. Wayne T. Gilchrest (R-Maryland-1st) has invited the new Maryland State Conservationist from the US Department of Agriculture Natural Resource Conservation Service to tour Delmarva with him by air on Monday.

Gilchrest has invited Virginia L. "Ginger" Murphy to accompany him on a flight leaving from Easton's airport on Monday, August 15, 2005, to survey the Delmarva Peninsula and talk about the challenges the Peninsula faces with growth and development.

He hopes to use the opportunity to further push for a Conservation Corridor across Delmarva which would preserve farmland and guarantee the viability of agriculture as well as conserving resources for wildlife.

"In order to get an idea of the landscape and the importance of agriculture here on Delmarva, you have to look at the big picture," Gilchrest said. "I'm pleased she's agreed to spend the morning talking about these important issues."

Gilchrest will be joined by Rob Etgen, executive director of the Eastern Shore Land Conservancy and John Hall, Kent County's Cooperative Extension Director.

The group will meet at Easton's airport at 10 a.m. and leave for their tour at 10:30 a.m.
