House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi delivered remarks following the conclusion of House Democrats' 26-hour sit-in on the House Floor to tell Speaker Ryan, "No Bill, No Break" and to demand a vote on commonsense gun violence prevention legislation to keep the American people safe. Below are the Leader's remarks:
"Good morning, everyone. I know it is afternoon here, but it is morning in California. And it is a new dawn of a new day in our fight to disarm hate.
[Cheers]
"We are all here -- the Members of Congress. And you will hear from all of us in order to say "thank you' to you. Thank you. Because of you and the instigation, the inspiration of John Lewis, the mobilization of Katherine Clark and David Cicilline, the orchestration by John Larson and then continued by Steve Israel, the Leadership of our Party -- everybody working together.
"The distribution of the message would not have been possible without all of you. And the continuation of the message will not be possible without all of you. And so I want to come here to say, once again, "thank you.' We've shouted during the night. Some of you were here all night.
"Thank you. Thank you for being here. And thank you for being there. Thank you for being there for those of us who said, "No more moments of silence, no more moments of silence without a plan of action.'
[Applause]
"And so, now it is my pleasure without further adieu to introduce the man of the hour, the man of the House, our great champion and inspiration, John Lewis."
