Today, a federal U.S. District court ruled in favor of House Republicans in a suit over ObamaCare spending not approved by Congress. Rep. Todd Rokita released the following statement in response to this major step forward in reestablishing the separation of powers:
"Today's historic ruling affirms the position that the House of Representatives took in challenging the administration's unilateral actions on ObamaCare funding. Our Constitution clearly gives the "power of the purse' to the Legislative Branch, which was reaffirmed by today's outcome.
"Ever since Obamacare was hastily passed, the Executive Branch has attempted to skirt the will of Congress in its implementation by spending billions of dollars without Congressional approval. The President took an oath to faithfully uphold the laws of the United States. Laws that are passed by Congress."
During the 113th Congress, Rep. Rokita voted in favor of H.Res. 676, which initiated this lawsuit. The Obama administration is expected to appeal Thursday's ruling to the U.S. Court of Appeals.
