Vitter Lauds SCOTUS Block of Obama's Illegal Amnesty

Today, U.S. Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) issued the following statement regarding the Supreme Court's decision to block President Obama's executive action granting amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants.

"For years now, President Obama has used every possible loophole to grant executive amnesty to millions of illegal aliens, and the Supreme Court's decision to block two of his illegal executive orders is a huge win," said Vitter. "I firmly believe in targeted reforms to fix our nation's immigration crisis starting with border security and enforcing the current immigration laws we have in place. Obama's illegal actions are finally catching up with him, and I will continue to push back until no form of executive amnesty is an option on the table."

Vitter serves as the Deputy Chair of the Judiciary Committee's immigration subcommittee, and also as the Chair of the Senate Border Security and Enforcement First Caucus. Vitter has championed efforts to eliminate sanctuary cities, close the birthright citizenship loophole, end the loophole allowing illegal immigrants to collect the Child Tax Credit and prevent illegal immigrants from receiving in-state tuition benefits before U.S. citizens.

Last week Vitter introduced an amendment to the Commerce, Justice and Science (CJS) Appropriations bill that would require the U.S. Census to include questions regarding citizenship and immigration status, which could help prevent states from counting illegal aliens for the purposes of determining population levels and other data associated with the census.
