Catherine Cortez Masto Statement on Donald Trump's Appearance in Las Vegas

Statement

Date: Jan. 21, 2016
Location: Las Vegas, NV
Issues: Immigration

Former Nevada Attorney General and candidate for United States Senate Catherine Cortez Masto released the following statement on Donald Trump campaigning in Las Vegas today:

"As the granddaughter of a Mexican immigrant, Donald Trump's anti-immigrant rhetoric is insulting and disrespectful towards the entire Hispanic population here in Nevada. But just as harmful to our community as the inflammatory rhetoric Trump espouses are the policies he says he would promote as President. Unfortunately, too many, including my opponent, Congressman Heck, are embracing Trump's policies like his plan to repeal birthright citizenship.

"Attacking the citizenship of American citizens born to immigrant families will do nothing to fix our broken immigration system; neither will opposing a bipartisan immigration reform compromise and voting to defund executive actions to keep families together, as Congressman Heck has unfortunately done. We will never end the dysfunction and partisanship in Washington if politicians are afraid to stand up to Trump and his anti-immigrant policies. In the Senate, I will work with both parties to solve problems and pass comprehensive immigration reform that keeps families together, secures our borders, and provides a pathway to earned citizenship for undocumented immigrants."
