Statement

Date: May 27, 2016
Location: Chicago, IL

Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (IL-09) released the following statement in honor of Memorial Day, which will be observed on Monday, May 30:

"On Memorial Day and every day we must keep in our hearts and minds the men and women who have given their lives in service to this nation. We must honor those who have answered the call from all walks of life and all corners of this country to serve in the armed forces. We must never forget those who have died, are missing in action, were prisoners of war, those who are still overseas, our veterans and military families.

"We must do all we can to ensure that our service men and women and their families receive all the support that they need while they are overseas and while their spouses are away. When our service men and women are deployed we must honor their service by taking care of their loved ones here at home.

"I will always stand up for our men and women in uniform and their families for the sacrifices they make each and every day for our country. I will continue to work for veterans and their families so that when they return home they given the proper benefits and care they have earned. This Memorial Day, please take the time to remember and honor the sacrifices so many have made for this great nation.
