Issues: Oil and Gas Taxes

Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) today voted for legislation opposing President Obama's proposal to increase energy prices by imposing an additional $10 tax on every barrel of oil. The House also voted to oppose a national carbon tax, another misguided attempt by the administration to raise energy costs on the American people.

"For the Michigan families struggling each month to pay their bills, a new $10 oil tax would be yet another blow to their pocketbooks. During a time of sluggish economic growth, the last thing we need is a misguided tax that will increase energy prices and hurt job creation. America's energy policies should encourage more innovation and production, not try at every turn to make energy more expensive for consumers," said Walberg.
