Today, the South Bay and Alameda Labor Councils announced their endorsement of Congressman Honda's campaign for re-election. They join the California Democratic Party, Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, and Attorney General Kamala Harris in supporting Congressman Mike Honda.
The South Bay and Alameda AFL-CIO Labor Councils represent more than 200 unions and over 200,000 union members in Alameda, Santa Clara and San Benito counties. For decades these groups have fought for the cause of working families throughout Silicon Valley. The support of both labor councils affirms that working class families know they have a champion in Congressman Honda.
"Mike Honda has decades of experience standing up for working families, while his opponent has never held office," said Ben Field, Executive Officer of the South Bay Labor Council. "There is only one candidate who can be counted on to deliver on issues that impact America's Working Class. The Labor Movement in California is proud once again to endorse Congressman Honda and stand with him in his fight to build a Silicon Valley that works for everyone."
"Mike Honda has always been a champion for the working class. His 98% AFL-CIO rating is more than enough proof that he is on the side of America's working families," stated Josie Camacho, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Alameda Labor Council. "From fighting for a living wage, protecting pensions, and standing up against poor trade deals; Congressman Honda isn't afraid to make tough decisions. The Alameda Labor Council is proud endorse him in his bid for re-election."
"I'm proud to have the endorsement of the South Bay and Alameda Labor Council. No one who works full time in Silicon Valley should have to choose between paying rent and putting food on the table," said Congressman Mike Honda. "Too many of our workers aren't earning enough to cover basic necessities. While in Congress, I will continue to fight for raising the national minimum wage, affordable housing, and creating good paying jobs in Silicon Valley."
