Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis, a former congresswoman and Labor secretary, today endorsed California Atty. Gen. Kamala Harris in her race for a U.S. Senate seat, another political prize for the candidate who won the state Democratic Party endorsement on Saturday.
The nod from Solis, one of Southern California's highest-profile Latino politicians, delivers a blow to Harris' top Democratic rival in the Senate race, Rep. Loretta Sanchez of Orange County.Sanchez has received numerous endorsements from Latino power brokers in Congress and the Legislature, hoping their seal of approval will help her capture the Latino vote in the June primary election.
Solis, in a statement released by the Harris campaign, praised the attorney general's record on advocating for working families.
"I've seen first-hand how Kamala Harris has delivered real results for our families -- passing the homeowners bill of rights, taking on predatory for-profit colleges and getting justice for communities harmed by polluters," Solis said. "We need leaders in Washington who will be bold voices for our families, and that's exactly what we'll get from Kamala."
