"On Memorial Day, we honor the selfless men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. Because of their courage, America remains a thriving democracy and a steadfast beacon of freedom around the world. On behalf of all New Yorkers, I extend my deepest condolences and gratitude to the families of our fallen heroes.
"On this day and every day, we remember the lives of soldiers we've lost and offer our sincere appreciation to those who are currently performing difficult and dangerous missions in distant lands. These service members continue to safeguard our way of life and their patriotism makes all of us proud to be Americans."
