Gov. Jay Nixon today announced the appointment of Associate Circuit Judge Joseph S. Dueker as Circuit Judge for the 21st Judicial Circuit, which covers St. Louis County. The position became vacant upon the retirement of the Honorable Thomas J. Prebil.

Judge Dueker was appointed as Associate Circuit Judge in 2010 and currently is assigned to preside over cases on the Court's Associate Criminal and Child Support Contempt dockets. Before being appointed to the bench, Judge Dueker served in the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office for more than 17 years.

Judge Dueker earned his law degree from Saint Louis University and his undergraduate degree from the University of Richmond, where he played for the university's Division I soccer team.

"In his almost six years on the bench in Missouri's largest county, Judge Dueker has demonstrated his capability in presiding over a wide variety of cases," Gov. Nixon said. "I am pleased to appoint him from the well-qualified panel submitted to me."

Judge Dueker was one of three applicants submitted to the Governor for consideration by the 21st Circuit Judicial Commission under the Missouri Nonpartisan Court Plan.
