STATEMENT BY AGRICULTURE SECRETARY MIKE JOHANNS REGARDING THE RESIGNATION OF USDA CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER SCOTT CHARBO

"Chief Information Officer Scott Charbo has submitted his resignation from USDA. I have accepted his resignation knowing that he is going on to serve the President in another important capacity. Scott will certainly be missed by all of us at USDA, but we wish him well as he takes on new challenges at the Department of Homeland Security.

"Scott has done a tremendous job since joining USDA in July of 2002. He deserves much of the credit for the department's success in implementing the President's eGoverment Initiative and in building a solid IT foundation. His long term vision and forward thinking has raised USDA to a level of unparalleled excellence in serving farmers and ranchers all across the country.

"I have named Dave Combs to serve as acting CIO until a permanent appointment is announced. As acting Deputy CIO for the past year, Dave has been instrumental to the many successes of this office and I appreciate his willingness to serve as acting CIO while we identify a new leader."
