Issue Position: Protect Freedom of Religion

Issue Position

I will always work to protect your freedom of religion. Lately, religious freedoms have come under attack in Kentucky, however the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment is intended to protect our right to worship as we choose. Our government is not supposed to penalize us because of our religious beliefs. The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution states:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Although technically, this fundamental freedom cannot be put up for a vote, there are lawmakers in Kentucky who seek to suppress religious speech. I will fight for your fundamental freedoms -- including freedom of religion.
