McKeon Statement on BRAC Commission's Decision to Realign the Marine Corps Logistics Base-Barstow

Washington, Aug 24 - U.S. Rep. Howard P. "Buck" McKeon today issued the following statement regarding the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission's decision to approve the Department of Defense's (DOD) recommendation to realign the Marine Corps Logistics Base- Barstow (MCLBB):

"MCLBB is an invaluable part of our national defense and the fight against the Global War on Terror, and I am disappointed that the BRAC Commission decided to support DOD's recommendation for realignment.

"As of now, we don't know how many workers will be impacted as a result of today's action, however I am committed to working with local, state, and federal officials to provide displaced workers with the help they need if the realignment is approved by the President.

"While I am disappointed by today's decision, I am eager to work with the Marine Corps to explore opportunities to rebuild and expand operations at MCLBB in the future. I have already been in dialogue with Marine Corps Commandant Michael Hagee to discuss the acquisition of additional joint military operations, and I am optimistic that better things are on the horizon.

"I am grateful to MCLBB, the City of Barstow, and all of the residents of our area for their hard work and resilience during this difficult time."
