Statement On Progressive Caucus "People's Budget"

Press Release

Date: March 15, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Rep. Mike Honda (D-Silicon Valley, Calif.), Vice-Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and first author of "The People's Budget" in 2011, joined fellow Caucus members applauding the release of this year's "People's Budget."

"While many of my colleagues talk about priorities, our budgets show what those priorities actually are," said Honda. "The People's Budget shows that progressives are committed to building a nation based on prosperity, not austerity. Nothing is more important to moving our country forward than the education of the next generation. That focus is evident in our commitment to giving every child the opportunity and access for a great education, from the day they are born."

Along with a focus on Honda's priority of education equity, the "People's Budget" invests in areas that have led to a national discussion on income inequality, and rebuilding our nation. It would invest more than $1 trillion in rebuilding and prioritizing American infrastructure; creating more than 3 million family-wage jobs; expanding Social Security; addressing the effects of man-made global climate change; taking care of American Veterans and; recreating a fairer, progressive tax code.
