Rep. Newhouse Response to President Obama's Address

Statement

Date: Dec. 6, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse (R-WA), released the following statement after President Obama's Oval Office address:

"The President's address tonight was disappointing. The horrific attacks in Paris and San Bernardino clearly show that radical Islamic terrorism is a growing threat at home and abroad. President Obama has the authority he needs to destroy ISIS, but tonight he simply doubled down on current efforts that have failed to even contain it.

"The call to restrict 2nd Amendment rights on law-abiding citizens was also misguided. California has the most stringent gun control laws in the nation. France has far stricter gun control than exists in the U.S. The terrorists attacked San Bernardino and Paris anyway. Rather than shift the debate to a political distraction, the President should develop a strategy to destroy radical Islamic terrorism."
