Mullin Reacts to President's Attempts to Violate the Second Amendment

Statement

Date: Jan. 5, 2016
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Guns

Congressman Markwayne Mullin (OK-02) issued the following statement after President Obama unveiled new executive actions on gun control on January 5, 2016:

"The president's new executive actions threaten the constitutional rights of law-abiding Americans. It has been clear for a long time that President Obama does not respect the lawmaking process -- he continually tries to go around Congress, overstep his authority, and push a radical agenda.

"Oklahomans have grieved with the communities around the country that have experienced senseless tragedies. Unfortunately, more gun control will not deter criminals from perpetrating evil acts. We must focus on closing our borders to individuals who wish to do us harm. We must let law enforcement and health professionals identify and address the root causes of violence, like radicalism and mental illness.

"Of course, like many of his other actions, President Obama's latest abuse of power will be challenged by Congress and in the federal court system."
