Praised by Democrats and Republicans for her passion in fighting for America's foster youth, Karen is one of Congress' most recognized champions for America's most vulnerable children.

Since her election to Congress in 2010, Karen has made improving the lives of all of America's children her passion. She co-founded the Congressional Caucus on Foster Youth where she brought Democratic and Republican members of Congress together to propose common sense legislation to benefit our nation's children.

In 2015, the House of Representatives unanimously passed the "Strengthening the Child Welfare Response to Trafficking Act of 2015," transformative legislation that will help to connect child victims of trafficking to appropriate child welfare services and prevent further exploitation of our children.

President Obama also signed the "Education Stability for Foster Youth Act" as part of comprehensive education reform legislation. Introduced by Karen, the new law will ensure that the nearly 400,000 young people who are a part of our nation's foster care system receive the support they deserve to succeed in school and receive a quality education.

Commended by advocates across the country for her unrelenting effort in helping foster youth for her work in Congress and in the California legislature, Karen continues to lead in Congress to ensure foster youth have the resources they need to find a safe and loving home and makes sure that when someone attempts to victimize them by recruiting them into trafficking.
