Lance Response to President Obama's Address on Terrorism

Statement

Date: Dec. 7, 2015
Location: Flemington, NJ

Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) released the following statement on the President's Oval Office address to the Nation last evening:

"All Americans want the President to be successful in his efforts to protect the United States from radical Islamic terrorists. Last night's speech, however, did little to inspire confidence in the Administration's understanding of the threat we face or how to defeat it. The President is correct: Terrorism has entered a new phase. The horrific attacks in Paris and San Bernardino clearly show that we need an aggressive and robust strategy to defeat radical Islamic terrorism. The President presented the Nation with the status quo instead.

"The status quo is unacceptable. That's why this week the House will vote on a bipartisan bill to close dangerous loopholes in the federal visa waiver program to reduce the risk from having an extremist enter the country from abroad. This legislation builds on a recent bipartisan vote to strengthen the certification process in our refugee program that helps ensure the safety of the American people.

"The best solution, however, is a comprehensive plan to eliminate ISIS and the threat of radical extremists, and only our commander-in-chief can provide that. Victory cannot be achieved with more of the same but through strong American leadership and a renewed commitment to the War on Terror. That is what the American People were hoping to hear from the President last evening."
