Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, a leading supporter of congressional efforts to address global climate change, released the following statement after NASA and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) scientists announced that 2015 was the hottest year on record:

"Confirmation that 2015 shattered the record for hottest year in recorded history comes as no surprise to communities in Maryland that are already feeling the harmful impacts of climate change. It is another alarming call to action that must be followed by a serious effort to limit our carbon emissions and work toward the pollution reduction goals agreed upon in Paris. My plan to tackle climate change is a simple, fair, and effective cap on carbon emissions that boosts the middle class while achieving greenhouse gas reductions. Americans are demanding action, and today climate change deniers in Congress have one less excuse to feign ignorance."
