Today, U.S. Rep. Tim Walz (D-MN) visited Rochester Public Utilities (RPU) to discusses meeting America's energy demands, the need to control our own energy destiny and growth in Rochester.

"Municipal utilities like RPU play a vital role in providing our communities with safe, affordable and reliable energy," said Rep. Walz. "From natural gas at its Silver Lake Plant to hydroelectric power on Lake Zumbro, RPU's all-of-the-above approach is a sound foundation for the city of Rochester to build upon as it grows. In the United States Congress, I will continue advocating for programs that set in place the conditions which allow RPU and all municipal utilities to own their energy future and harness the next generation of American energy."

Rochester Public Utilities serves the city of Rochester, MN through owning and operating facilities that generate and distribute power and that distribute water. As the largest municipal utility in Minnesota, RPU produces electricity for about 50,000 customers and brings water to around 38,000.
