U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield (KY-01), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power, issued the following statement in response to the President's State of the Union Address:

"The American people have continuously voiced their desire to see elected officials set an agenda that works to restore a confident America and empowers the people. President Obama should be working with Congress to provide solutions on issues related to jobs, economic growth, and threats to our national security.

"Instead, in his final State of the Union Address, President Obama chose to glorify his climate driven policies that have devastated coal miners and ratepayers in Kentucky and across the country. It is clear that this president is more focused on his legacy in the international climate community than on the issues facing hardworking American families.

"President Obama's unilateral decision making and belief that he alone knows what's best for our country has solidified his legacy as the most divisive president in modern history. His failed leadership while in office will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the most harmful periods of federal overreach in our history."
