Statement

Date: March 28, 2016
Location: Washington, D.C.

Today, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY-21) issued the following statement on the news that the Department of Justice is resuming payments made to local law enforcement agencies through the Equitable Sharing Program:

"This is great news for the North Country as our local law enforcement depends on these critical funds to keep our community safe," said Congresswoman Stefanik. "Providing law enforcement with the tools they need is important for public safety and crime prevention, and I will continue to work to make sure these critical funds are available."

The Department of Justice's Equitable Sharing program splits assets seized under civil forfeiture laws with local and state law enforcement. Congresswoman Stefanik has been working with local Sheriffs to resolve the suspension of this program.
