Domenici Announces USDA Award to Support MRI Services at Roosevelt General Hosptial
from the Office of Senator Pete V. Domenici

Friday, June 10, 2005

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Pete Domenici today announced that $1.04 million in grant and loan funding has been awarded to the Roosevelt County Rural Telephone Cooperative to support the purchase of Magnetic Resonance Image (MRI) and other equipment for Roosevelt General Hospital.

The $740,000 zero-interest, 10-year loan and $300,000 grant were awarded to the cooperative through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development program. The funding will allow the cooperative to support the hospital equipment purchase, which will in turn lead to the hiring of new personnel to provide the new hospital service.

"I am pleased with this grant-loan award that will bring an added level of medical care at the Roosevelt General Hospital, and give the community the resources to support the medical professionals who use it," Domenici said.

The USDA and the cooperative estimates that the funding package will allow the Roosevelt County Special Hospital District to add six direct jobs to the hospital's radiology department, including two full-time licensed and registered MRI technicians, two full-time licensed and registered X-ray technicians, a full-time clerk, and a secretary/scheduler.

The Roosevelt County Special Hospital District is also dedicating other resources toward this project.
