Sen. Franken Will Join World Leaders in Landmark Climate Change Negotiations Today in Paris

Statement

Today, U.S. Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) will be traveling to the U.N. Climate Change Conference in Paris to meet with world leaders to work on solutions to the growing threat of global climate change.

"Climate change is one of the most difficult and pressing threats we face, and it will only get worse if we don't do something significant to combat it," Sen Franken said. "That's why I look forward to joining world leaders at the landmark negotiations in Paris to work on tackling the growing danger of global climate change. We need to act now, because the stakes are too high-and the consequences are too devastating-to leave this problem to future generations. While in Paris, I'll be meeting with government leaders, businesses, and clean energy advocates to voice Congressional support for a strong, positive outcome from the negotiations. Climate change is a global issue that requires international action, so I will work to strengthen partnerships and develop solutions for addressing it. I'm proud to represent Minnesota at this momentous gathering, and as a member of the Senate Energy Committee, I will continue to build on the ideas and solutions we develop in Paris when I get back to Washington."

Working to address climate change has been one of Sen. Franken's top priorities since joining the Senate, and in Paris, he will meet with world leaders from other nations and participate in briefings from the U.S. negotiating team. He will also meet with private and public stakeholders to build partnerships and develop effective solutions for addressing climate change.
