Farenthold Joins Coalition Filing Amicus Brief in Support of Texas HB 2

Press Release

Date: Feb. 10, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Blake Farenthold (R-TX-27) joined with others members of Congress in support of Texas HB 2, filing an amicus brief with the U.S. Supreme Court this week. Texas HB 2 establishes standards for abortion providers and facilities to ensure patients have access to quality medical care during procedures.

The Supreme Court will hear arguments in Whole Woman's Health v. Hellerstedt later this spring.

"We would never stand for a patient to have same-day surgery in an unsafe or unsanitary facility, or to allow a doctor to put patients at risk by not being able to admit them to the hospital if a complication arises during the surgery. So it makes no sense to think it's okay to put women through unsafe procedures during an abortion," Congressman Farenthold said. "Texas HB 2 is commonsense legislation that protects patients just like any other medical facility."

In total, 34 senators and 140 House members have signed onto the brief, which can be found here
